[…] Accept That Imposter Syndrome is Common: Even the most accomplished individuals often grapple with imposter syndrome. Maya Angelou, renowned poet and author, once admitted, “I have written eleven books, but each time I think, ‘Uh oh, they’re going to find out now. I’ve run a game on everybody, and they’re going to find me out.’” Similarly, Emma Watson, a celebrated actress and activist, shared, “When I receive recognition for my acting, I feel incredibly uncomfortable.
This is the best and most thoughtful description of the results of angry parenting I have ever read. I grew up with a father who used to have explosive anger. He would rant and rave and had to control everything and everyone. My mother taught me to work on eggshells and live in a way that would make no one angry. I used to get so upset as a child that I would throw up. I wasn’t allowed to ever express anger. As a result, it took me well into adulthood to learn what dysregulation was and how to begin to begin regulating my anger.

I recently watched a video on You Tube that was a revelation to me. It was about why the Japanese raised well-adjusted, courteous children. Their approach to child wearing is completely different. They never fight or raise their voices around their kids. They sympathize with their children’s discomfort in a given trying situation and ask them to be strong, reminding them the feeling is temporary. They assure their children that they have their backs and will protect them. They never devalue or mock the child. They ask them to be respectful of the community around them, as the community will do the same for them. What a difference.
