TODAY’S LESSON
Choosing your thoughts to choose your emotions.

Jump to: Weekly Meditation | Journal Prompt | Affirmation

Today’s lesson you’ll learn:

  • The cognitive approach to emotional control.
  • How situations trigger our automatic thoughts that create our emotional experience which drives our behavior.

We started this journey learning that our mind affecting our body and our body affecting our mind is a two-way street, but it’s easier to calm the mind through the body than the body through the mind.

So that’s why we started in the body. Let’s now go the other way down the street and take the cognitive behavioral approach.

Yesterday we saw how we can’t control what thought will automatically come to mind.

So let’s look deeper at that. Situations will trigger automatic thoughts. Those thoughts create an emotional reaction (remember, emotions are the physical and energetic manifestation of the thoughts in our mind). Our behaviors are then based on our emotions.

Today – When you get stressed, ask yourself: “What am I thinking that is making me feel this way? What emotions are driving my behavior?”
